Forestry Technician (Timber Sale Administration)

Monitors and inspects timber sale operations having conventional contract requirements and conditions. Interprets and explains timber sale contract provisions to the timber operator. Informs supervisor of problems that have an effect on other forest resources or accuracy of marking and scaling. Inspects going timber sales areas for compliance with contract clauses governing location and construction of non-system roads, fire prevention, personal safety precautions, and cutting provisions. Obtains compliance or reports noncompliance to supervisor. Prepares written reports of all sale inspections and makes follow-ups on deficiencies. Performs final inspections and recommends acceptance of the contract for closure. Prepares written reports of all sale inspections and follows up on deficiencies. (1) One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6. Specialized experience is defined as:
Monitoring and inspecting timber sale operations having common contract requirements and conditions; Preparing written reports of sale inspections; laying out timber sale boundaries, interpreting timber sale contracts (read provisions and explain to operators), applying silviculture prescriptions understanding marking guides, and identifying tree species. -OR Successful completion of 1 year of graduate level education (18 semester/27 quarter hours), courses are forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. No more than 3 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. -OR A combination of education and experience listed above.
