Biological Science Technician (Wildlife)

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-6). Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-6); OR one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Examples of specialized experience include:
Inspecting wildlife habitat and/or nesting sites and collecting field data on wildlife habitat and vegetation, species condition, location, and status for the preparation of maps and habitat management and improvement plans. Compiling and summarizing biological data obtained from aerial and ground surveys to determine vegetation type, wildlife and livestock use, and to identify and evaluate habitat management. Selective Placement Factors As a field going position working in brown or black bear habitat, this position is required to be firearm certified for personal and/or crew safety. Executive Order 12564 requires that employees designated to carry a firearm to be subject to random drug testing. This position will be subject to random drug testing. The ability to obtain and maintain weapons certification is a condition of employment in this position, which involves receipt of a negative pre-certification drug test result, passing a minimum background investigation, passing firearm classroom training, passing the shooting proficiency test and enrollment in the random drug testing pool. Normal color and stereovision is essential for accurate recognition of discolored, injured vegetation. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition Title18, U.S.C., Section 922(g)(9) . A misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is generally defined under the statute, as any offense involving the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by the victim's current or former domestic partner, parent or guardian. The term convicted, as defined in the statute, excludes any person whose conviction has been expunged, set-aside, or pardoned, or any person whose civil rights have been restored unless the pardon, expungement or restoration of civil rights expressly prohibits the possession of firearms or ammunition. Candidates who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence within the meaning of the referenced statute are not qualified for this position. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense. False or fraudulent information proved by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment, Title 18, U.S.C., Section 1001 .
